University Spin-off Is Able to Measure Stress
Entrant s.r.o., new spin-off of Masaryk University monitors stress in fields where stress load plays a key role. The emerging device can help pilots and astronauts.
"Stress is an individual concept. Everyone can interpret it in their own way. Stress is usually associated with work, but the truth is that our bodies are constantly stressed by the surrounding conditions," says Julie Dobrovolna, a scientist who is dealing with the topic of stress at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University for more than ten years.
"The device we are working on allows to estimate the adaptation costs of an organism in a specific situation. These costs can be considered as a proportional stress response," Dobrovolna explained the basic principle of device. The potential of the device is wide, for example, it could help doctors create appropriate therapeutic regimens for critically ill patients.
Due to developing the technology and its industrial application, a new spin-off company working with an innovative algorithm was created.
“In order for Entrant to use the intellectual property of the university, a license agreement was signed. It deals with the management of specific intellectual property of the university and declares how much of revenue Masaryk University will receive in the future," commented Radoslav Trautmann, Head of the Technology Transfer Department at Masaryk University. A signed license agreement will ensure the transfer of scientific work to the commercial sphere and financial evaluation of the university's research.
The technology will lead to the space incubator ESA.BIC Brno, which supports start-up companies in the development of technologies for use in the space industry. "We received an investment from the European Space Agency (ESA) within 14 days of creating the business plan. That is a sign of great interest in the topic of stress monitoring," said Jiri Navratil, CEO of Entrant and Technology launch Director of UNICO.AI. UICO.AI played an important role in preparing cooperation between investors and the university.
